Nowadays there are a lot of very good books, and other ones that are not. If you do not know what to read, here are some contemporary books to read instead of wasting your time at home.
We are going to divide the books according to the age they are suitable for: books for kids (9-11 years old) and books for youngsters (+12 years old)
BOOKS FOR KIDS
First, we will start talking about books for young children, which are sometimes educative. They are usually themed in action or fantasy so children start getting interested in reading.
Harry Potter (Saga) (JK Rowling)
Harry Potter books and movies are famous around the world. They are about a boy named Harry Potter. He lives with his aunt and uncle and his cousin for 10 years. He really hates them! But one day he receives a really unexpected announcement.
Charlie and the chocolate’s factory (Roald Dahl)
In the book we will find a magic chocolate factory; Willy Wonka’s factory. He has 5 golden tickets he will give to people around the world so that people can taste his delicious chocolate bars, and if you win the ticket, you will be able to visit Willy Wonka’s factory! Amazing and mysterious things happen in the factory, will you discover Willy Wonka’s factory secrets?
Matilda (Roald Dahl)
This book addresses a little girl that lives with her parents and her brother. No one in her family really likes her, but no one knows that she is a genius, because her family is very dumb.When she starts school she discovers she has superpowers! She can levitate almost every little object she wants only by looking at it. Her teacher, Mrs Honey, is very proud of her, but the school’s principal has a very different opinion about her. Some smell delicious and others smell nauseating. If you like fantasy creatures or incredible stories, this saga is made for you!

BOOKS FOR YOUNGSTERS
Now, we will continue talking about books for teenagers. They include more serious topics, and there are more types of books like romance, horror or fiction. They are usually used to inspire films and their vocabulary is more advanced.
Through my Window (Ariana Godoy):
There are 2 main characters: Raquel and Ares. Raquel is in love all her life with his neighbour Ares. But they never make any contact. Raquel’s objective is to like Ares and she will do all the possible to get it.
Boulevard (Flor Salvador):
This is a story where 2 teens create their Boulevard under the rain. In the sky, there are 2 parts: a blue sky and an electric blue sky.
Lie (Care Santos)
In this book, there is a girl (Xenia) that struggles to have the best marks and wants to study medicine. Xenia’s marks are low, because she is in love with a phantom, a voice from the Internet, and they both share their love for books.
Five feet apart ( Mikki Daughtry/Tobias Laconis):
‘Five feet apart’ is a story with two main characters. Both are sick: the first is waiting for his death and the second has hope for his cure. They will finally change their minds.
Little Women (Louisa May Alcott):
The story is about 4 sisters and teenagers and their life. They try to do everything better than the others bit by bit.
