Along the year there are a lot of different great movies published. Here are two great movies to watch with the whole family that you can find in Disney+.
- ENCANTO
Encanto is a movie for all the family which got very popular in the last months. It’s about a magic family; everyone in the family has a magical power (the grandma, the sisters, the mother…), but the main character, Mirabel, didn’t get her magical power. She’s not sad about that anymore, but her grandma doesn’t accept her and charges her about it. The rest of the family, opposed to her grandma, accepts her like she is.
Mirabel feels worried because she thinks the magic is disappearing, and she tries to repair it. She talks with Luisa about her problems, and discovers that she isn’t the only one that has a difficult life. Then, she discovers her uncle was also judged, but because of his power: knowing the future. He escaped because people considered him and his power a danger. She found him and helped him to return to the family. Mirabel’s uncle (named Bruno) tells her she needs to hug her very hated sister to save the magic. At the beginning, she doesn’t want to, but she finally accepts. The same occurs with her sister. They both solved her problems and made the grandma think about how she has to judge less her family and accept the people how it is.
In our opinion, on the one hand we think this movie is very interesting, nice for teaching and a good movie to watch with your family or friends. Is very original and teaches little kids to accept others. The animation is great and the graphics are also incredible; and although it took 3 years to make, it is worth it.
But on the other hand we think that the story could be longer and expanded, because the storyline is great, but most of the movie are songs. The non-main characters like Mirabel’s parents or cousins, even if they are near family, don’t have much personality, they only have one type of personality and almost don’t appear in the movie; they could be important characters, but they aren’t. Also the initial scenes could be more specific.
2. TURNING RED
The “Red” movie describes a teenager’s life when they reach puberty. In this case, it’s about a girl named Mei Lee. She is 13 years old, lives in Toronto and has 3 best friends: Abby, Miriam and Priya. She does her best to get her mum’s aprovation and make her happy and proud of her. Her mum wants the best for her. All her family works in a Chinese temple, explaining her familiar culture to other people. A normal day, she wakes up and transforms into a red panda, which in her family means that she reaches puberty. She learns to control the red panda, if she is angry, the red panda appears, but if she is calmed, the red panda disappears. Her mum explains she can make it disappear, as her mum did, with a ritual. At the beginning, she hates her panda power and wants to make the ritual, but then she likes her power and discovers she can use it to win money taking the advantage of people in her school love the panda: she receives money and they can take photos with her or buy red panda crafts.She is very fan of a group of singers called “4*Town” and she and her friends discover that the music group comes to Toronto (their city) the same day as the red moon. (The red moon is for taking out the red panda from your body). Mei, Abby, Miriam and Priya save money for go to the 4*Town concert without Mei Lee mother’s consent. They saved money for it with Mei’s power and her friend’s crafts, and they get almost all the money. To get all the money, they have to go to a party and celebrate it with the red panda, but her mum discovers her and returns her home. The next few days, all Mei’s family come to do the ritual, but Mei doesn’t want to do the ritual, because she wants to go to the concert and escape. Her mum got really angry and, after lots of years, broke the ritual and transformed into an enormous red panda, destroying the stadium and the concert. Mei apologizes to her mum and they talk about how they feel, and her mum says it’s also responsible for how Mei feels. Finally, Mei decides to keep her red panda forever.
From our point of view, the storyline is very original and interesting, suitable for all ages. It talks about the self-control and the feeling of too much pressure. The animation is fantastic and also the graphics.
